Anchormen/women. You stay classy DC.
These days I've been splitting my news watching between WRC-TV aka channel 4 and WJLA aka channel 7. I used to watch 4 religiously because I just liked their style of news, and most of their reporters are DC institutions and I had no life. This resulted in some sheer geekdom excitement everytime I spot a local report out on the town. Here are the ones I remember:
I'm liking how WJLA is trying to be hipper now that they've set up shop in the heavily trafficked Rosslyn area and their big ass Time Square TV screen hanging off their building. Its sad that channel 9 is first in HD and their newscasts are amazing to look at in widescreen highdef crispness, the same can't be said about their news delivery nor their reporters. Maybe its just me.

Anyway, NBC4 is profiling the blogging scene here in DC since it appears to be a flourishing community of bloggers that are getting online in the DC metro area. The DCblogs guy was first profiled, and what
he says about blogs towards the end of the extended interview online is so true about this city, and also could've been applied to the big deal about chatrooms and homepages back in the 90s. I guess with blogs its just easier to get your voice out there and be heard and not have to worry so much about the technical jargon (thanks yahoo, google, sixapart, myspace, friendster, livejournal, etc!)

I'll see all of your local celebs and raise you one Jim Vance sighting... I was out in western Maryland at the Rocky Gap Lodge when Mr. Vance pulled into the parking lot on his Harley! Bonus points because he was A. dressed in cool biker garb and B. he was accompanied by a woman (wife? girlfriend? I don't know his marital status) riding her own chopper.
Oh, oh, wait! I'll see my own Jim Vance and raise you a... Tim Russert! I got to Meet the Press (so to speak) at a live taping at NBC4 studios.
Before the show I ran into Katty Kay who asked if I was on the panel. "Um, yeah Ms. Kay, today it's you, David Broder and me. Yeah right. After the show I got to shake hands with Russert.
I suppose that seeing a tv guy in his own studio is not really the same as seeing one randomly on the street. But it was still pretty cool. (If you're into that sort of thing. Which clearly we are.)
a while ago, i saw leon harris at union station... well, the story is on my blog somewhere... anyways, ever since that that day, i have had a strong hate for the man... everytime i watch channel 7, i'm like, 'shut up leon!' (i talk to the tv). he can be so annoying sometimes... and my moms works in the wjla building and i can see it from school... *chi shudders*
Chi, i can't find that post. I'm curious what Leon Harris could've done that you would be so put off by him?
Do you have any Moreen Bunyon sightings? She has to have my favorite "you stay classy, DC" names. And, just for the record, Bob Ryan IS a TOTAL ass.
Hah, I wish I could say I've seen Ms. Bunyon, just for the sheer fact that I can say her last name. My wife gets a big kick everytime she sees Maureen have to say her name.
Man, I can't believe Bob Ryan has wronged so many locals.
What is your weird, sick obsession with local tv anchors? I bet you go around taking pictures of them... if you do, you should post them on your blog.
you should put Krystal Koons on this "celebrity siting" listing even though she's not a TV anchor. that would be hilarious. who has ever seen krystal koons?!
