Day off

5.02.2006

I took the day off to roam around DC with the wife since she starts a new job tomorrow. Walking around DC during a workday is a different experience than when I'm out during the weekends. Downtown in the morning near the DMV, while it is overly crowded on the road, its not too bad on the sidewalks.

There are 2 things that usually strike me when I'm not at work on a weekday, who are all these people that also out and about? They seem to all not have jobs but yet they can shop, eat at fancy places, and not seem to have a care in the world. Which ultimately makes me feel like a chump for sitting my ass at work for 40 hours a week in a cubicle while these guys get to hang out in starbucks. Then again, I do realize approximately 90% of these people are tourists, but still, I don't think all of them are.

I also think I should just start working weekends and taking weekdays off. The city is so much more peaceful and quiet. I really liked it. Its like having the whole city to myself and not having to wait in line for anything. Although parking is always atrocious either way.

Another thing that I always get from being out in Georgetown during a nice day is that I wish I had gobs of money like Paris Hilton or someone so I could live in one of those really fancy houses or ornate rowhouses right near Dumbarton House and be neighbors with Senators and Moguls. That'd be sweet.

But what was sweet about the day was I was able to pretend that I didn't have a job for a day, and that was worth its while.
